Cracked Bumper?

A cracked bumper is among the most common car body repairs performed by smart (Small to Medium Area Repair Techniques) repair operatives. Sometimes nevertheless, a fracture will appear and split the bumper and this needs to be dealt with differently.

If your cracked bumper is not fixed or the repair is performed with ordinary filler, the structural integrity of the bumper is compromised. It is crucial the fender fracture is treated and rejoined having a hard yet flexible resin. A special technique is used to execute this which needs to be carried out every time.

Typically the fracture will not look serious, it often gets the appearance of a hairline crack and it is appealing to run a little filler and treat that as repaired. The effect of that is that the next time the fender is put under any pressure whatsoever, the crack generally widen and will reappear. The crack must be widened, efficiently worsening the damage so that there’s enough of an opening for the resin. There is a hole drilled at each end of the crack, half on and half off the end. This forever ceases the crack from running again. A v-shaped groove has to be made down the crack’s centre, wide enough without going off the edge of the crack, to create a hole.

A succession of holes, one on each side of the crack every inch or so along the entire period of the fracture must be drilled. A mix of resin and hardener, specifically formulated for fender repairs like this, is subsequently injected into each one of the holes which have been drilled. The net backing offers the purchase needed to avoid the resin going straight through. The goal here is to effectively “stitch” the repair together.

After applying the resin, a body filler spreader (or ideally specialist contouring movie) is employed to smooth the repair on the top side of Alloy Wheel Repair Harold Hill the fender to minimise the sanding that will be demanded later.
